Andrew Balog
Andrew F. Balog, an award-winning American novelist, was born in 1990 and grew up in the tranquil lakeside town of Lake Champlain, New York. His passion for storytelling took root early in life and eventually led to a thriving career in the film industry, where he earned numerous national and international accolades. Despite his success, Balog felt a pull to return to his first love: writing novels. Today, he lives on a peaceful farm in upstate New York with his wife, Margaret, and their three children, staying true to his core values of faith, family, and crafting compelling narratives.
Balog’s acclaimed international bestseller, What Whispers in the Darkness, invites readers into a spine-chilling tale of survival and fear. Stranded on Vermont’s isolated Route Two during a relentless storm, a couple’s desperate search for shelter takes them to a secluded inn that quickly reveals itself to be a sinister trap. The innkeepers are not hosts but hunters, and the couple is thrust into a waking nightmare where eerie whispers blur the line between reality and horror. With time running out, they must piece together the inn’s dark history to escape or risk becoming its next victims. Balog’s gripping storytelling and masterful tension weave an unforgettable tale that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

Bill Portella
In his book The Eleventh Layer- Origins of Human Evolution, Bill Portela invites readers to consider the role of evolution in their personal, spiritual framework. This stirring journal takes us back five billion years as Earth transformed from star particles into the incubator for all known life in our universe. The leading chapters sketch panoramas of ancient continents gliding across molten, primeval oceans. Seething near undersea volcanic rifts, could fledgling proteins begat exquisite, spiral DNA molecules? Three billion years later, an extraordinary fusion between biological kingdoms catapulted life onto land. Darwin's harsh laws of survival seem balanced by symbiotic theories proving that organic cooperation is a universal constant to our being. We contrast feminine instincts with male behavior patterns. We probe how women developed essential coping strategies as men channeled aggression and why patriarchies persist today. This book is written for new evolutionary learners to provide a comprehensive introduction to natural science. Note - I will also bring my line of photographic nature/wildlife note cards. Bill Portela has been a wildlife rehabilitator and breeder/trainer of workhorses for thirty years. He has taught subjects, including biology, for over forty years in most settings such as elementary, middle, high school, university, service, and private sector. His training as a systems engineer allowed him to spend twenty years evaluating (and correcting) how complex systems either do or do not function successfully. The propagation of resilient systems is exactly how evolution works. Studying evolution is understanding how entangled organic interactions emerge, why they fail, and how they flourish.

Crooked Face Creamery
I am an International award winning small batch artisan cheesemaker in Skowhegan. I own a retail shop downtown and I make and sell my cheeses for my local market, and throughout small shops and restaurants across the state and online. In my free time, I love to write. It's actually what I went to school for, but my career took shape in cheesemaking and writing became a hobby. I recently self published a book called "The Cheesemaker's Day" that I sell at my shop along with other cheese related publications. I would love to set up a booth to sell my book, along with the other incredible cheese focused publications we carry, and also offer our cheeses and free samples. I think it would be a fun and creative way to share our story and our products, connecting the art of cheesemaking with the art of writing.

Enough! Non-Profit
At this year’s Maine Book & Print Fest, I’ll be offering an interactive reflection booth hosted by Enough! — my grassroots nonprofit centered around storytelling, healing, and community care. Visitors are invited to engage with writing prompts like “a love letter to your future self” or “grief & gratitude reflections,” and contribute anonymously to a growing community display.
The goal is to hold space for softness, honesty, and shared human experience — to remind us that our stories, even in their quietest forms, matter. Some written pieces (with permission) may later be shared on my podcast, The Affinity Journals, as part of a new series titled “Stories That Shape Us.”
Though I won’t be selling physical products, this booth is a heartfelt extension of the work I do through Affinity Fire Studios — using portraiture, photojournalism, and storytelling to witness people as they are and as they’re becoming. Enough! aims to uplift LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, immigrant, and marginalized communities through art, advocacy, and radical presence. This space is open to anyone who needs to pause, reflect, or be reminded that they are not alone.

In What Realm
In What Realm aims to blend art with sustainability. Unwanted items such as clothing, accessories, fabric, and old silverware, are turned into wearable art pieces. Faith started her art journey through photography, using experimentation to intuitively make images to explore the subconscious mind. She used the creative process as a way to navigate chronic illness and better understand the disconnect she felt between her mind, body, and the outside world. As the creative journey continues, her focus is shifting towards spiritual and nature based imagery using block printing and cyanotype methods.

J. Lauren Sangster
J. Lauren Sangster was born and raised in Kentucky and has also lived in Tennessee, New York, and Maine. She began writing to help process her trauma and has won national and state awards for her work, including the 2018 Richard F. Snow Nonfiction Award for her story, “I Love You, I Miss You Already”, about her husband's struggle with a terminal illness. On her podcast Flying Over the Hedge she discusses more in depth certain topics she raises in her book such as generational trauma, parental/family estrangement, gut instinct, and flashbacks with the hope to further educate from the trauma victim's viewpoint. She is a member of The Authors Guild, Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, and International Women's Writing Guild. As part of her healing, Lauren embraces the opportunity to practice compassionate understanding working as a volunteer online reader for the Freedom to Choose Project in California, which provides a self-help program geared toward incarcerated women and men. Today, Lauren lives in Maine with her partner John.
At five-years-old, young Janet raised out of her body and flew over a honeysuckle hedge. It was this dreamlike experience offering her mind momentary respite from the dysfunction and abuse surrounding her that began her difficult life journey toward healing.
In this riveting memoir, J. Lauren Sangster tells her personal story of surviving childhood sexual abuse, family dysfunction and violence. Trying to escape her past with a new identity as Lauren in New York, she discovers love and heartbreak with a man of Hungarian nobility and his whirlwind high society life in Newport, Rhode Island, then endures abuse and torture while held captive by a philatelist deep in the French Alps. Amid the darkness, and still haunted by childhood trauma, Lauren manages to survive and finds support with a circle of trusted friends back in New York… and even finds love again.
J. Lauren Sangster’s memoir is a testament to remarkable resilience during her journey to cope and heal with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (Complex PTSD). Writing with humility, compassion, and a sense of humor, she provides an unfiltered examination of how her traumatized mind works while finding joy in friends, love, silly riddles, a pet dachshund, and learning to live authentically as she discovers new ways to heal more deeply, thus offering the reader hope that they, too, may triumph over trauma.

Kate Flora
I will bring series mysteries, true crime, and stand alone suspense novels as ell as Maine-based small town mysteries by my late mother. This event was fabulous last year and I'm excited to participate again and share a tent with Maureen Milliken. Kate Flora’s fascination with the darker side of human nature began in the Maine attorney general’s office, where she encountered everything from deadbeat dads to child abusers to discriminatory employers. This exposure ignited her curiosity about what drives people to cross moral and legal lines. Now the author of twenty-six books across crime fiction, true crime, memoir, and nonfiction, Flora’s works have earned her a finalist spot for prestigious awards like the Edgar, Agatha, Anthony, and Derringer. She has twice won the Maine Literary Award for crime fiction, taken home the Public Safety Writers Association award for nonfiction, and received lifetime achievement honors from both the New England Crime Bake and the Maine Crime Wave. Active in her local chapter of Sisters in Crime and a founder of New England Crime Bake and Maine Crime Wave, Flora plays a significant role in the crime writing community. Her latest works include Burn the Diaries and Run, a gripping domestic suspense novel, and Those Who Choose Evil, the ninth installment in her gritty Joe Burgess police procedural series. When she’s not crafting dark, suspenseful stories, she divides her time between Massachusetts and Maine, finding joy in gardening, cooking, and watching the clouds. The Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec
The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec is to improve reading, writing, and other literacy skills so each individual may reach their potential, and to promote and advocate for literacy for families and the community. LVK is committed to the personal growth of our learners. We help adults and their families acquire basic literacy skills to enable them to achieve broader personal goals. LVK believes that the ability to read and write, to understand and be understood, is critical to personal freedom and the maintenance of a democratic society. We recognize literacy as an integral element in the broader goals of economic opportunity and security, social justice, and dignity. At this event LVK will showcase how LVK works to promote family literacy in our community with a focus on our partnership with the Dollywood Foundation to be the Kennebec County Affiliate for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. We will have literacy displays and be encouraging families to register their children 0-5 who will then receive a new carefully selected book each month mailed to their home with the child’s name. There is strong evidence that limited literacy is closely correlated with poverty and that families who do not have books for their children are less apt to prepare their children for success in school. This program has shown to increase children's readiness for school.

Leslie J Linder, M.Div.
I have a 92 page self-published sci-fi novella, "The Heart of the Chimera" out now. This is a vegan-themed story about a heart transplant recipient who comes to understand that her heart was grown in a research pig. I also have a children's picture book called "The Vegan Witches' Halloween" projected for release September 1. I would like to sell both of these and I am open to doing a reading from either of them if you would like this for programming. Both projects are fully summarized and have illustration examples, reviews, etc. on my website: https://www.lesliejlinder.com/neo-pagan-writing/ and the synopsis' of both books are as follows:
The Heart of the Chimera: In a futuristic world where innovation meets identity, Lianna, a young woman with a transplanted heart, embarks on a quest for truth. Joined by her partner Stella, she uncovers a shocking secret: her heart was grown from a genetically-modified pig. This discovery plunges them into a maze of ethical challenges and conspiracies. As corporate greed and moral questions loom, Lianna must decide if she can accept her heart's origins or if the truth will upend her life. "The Heart of the Chimera" is a gripping tale of humor, heartache, and human ingenuity.
The Vegan Witches' Halloween: In this magical children’s book, the vegan witches celebrate a Halloween with their cats, friends, and plant-based treats. Is there a magical, marvelous vegan witch in your life? Share the inspiration and the joy with this whimsical rhyming picture book that can be enjoyed by littles with the help of an older reader. The Flesch Reading Scale rating for this vocabulary indicates an Elementary to Middle School level reading level, or higher. This book is a fun way to grow both vegan ethics and vocabulary! A brief resource guide for new or aspiring vegans is included in the back matter of this sweet little book.

Nova Jarvis
I currently have two self published books. "Reignite Me" is a poetry collection that discusses relationships, love, crushes, and the general ups and downs of those. "The Gift" is a short Christmas romance where two strangers make a deal for Christmas to help each other out. I'd be offering those at this event. I am expecting to have at least one other book published by this time, but maybe two. One is another poetry collection, the other is the first in a western series. I am also thinking of potentially bringing prints of my photography as well as some art/jewelry I have been slowly working on. I do not have any pictures of these, but I have a collection of photographs from Maine that include moose, deer, loons, landscapes, etc. For art and jewelry, I have been working on jewelry that includes crystals and shell casings. I haven't gotten the crystal shipment yet, hence the lack of photos. If this would put me in a different category to pay the fee, I am totally okay with that! I wasn't 100% sure where to place myself.

Hello, My name is Nicole McKay and I am the artist behind Nicole‘s Creations. I have been doing macramé for just under 20 years. I truly enjoy sharing my creations, meeting new people through my work, and collaborating with Maine owned boutiques that carry my pieces. I strive to use mainly organic materials in my macramé, appreciating and being inspired by nature itself. I create everything from macrame jewelry, plant hangers, macrame bookmarks, purses, macrame keychains, headbands, coasters, macrame wall hangings and accessories, just to name a few 😉

Samantha Eaton
Samantha Eaton has been drawn to horror for as long as she can remember. Like many horror authors, she started out by reading Stephen King at far too young an age and let nature run its course. Her work centers around two key themes: 1) you can defeat the most heinous monsters, but you’re going to be different when it’s done, and 2) humor is a fantastic coping mechanism even in the darkest times.
Her debut novel, The Insatiable Hunger of Trees, follows 17 year old Cara, a girl who has her life together in the wake of the disappearance of her older sister, Shelby. When her sister miraculously returns, changed, Cara is faced with a change in her meticulously laid plans and must uncover what happened to Shelby while she was gone.
Eaton’s sophomore novel, The Roots in Your Bones, has been referred to as “Horror meets Hallmark”, with a splash of women’s fic and comedy woven into a devastating tale about moving on. Protagonist Marisa and her fat cat, Beef, move halfway across the country following the end of a relationship. With few options, Marisa moves into the empty home of a friend’s distant relative. Once arrived, she finds she isn’t the only thing within those walls that’s haunted.
She is currently working on a wildlife rehab focused horror, Don’t Feed The Wildife, with a publication goal of February or March 2025, and an untitled corporate survival horror.
When she isn’t writing, Samantha can usually be found in her tiny kitchen baking or cooking, participating in autocross, at a concert (usually some flavor of metal or punk), developing policies and procedures for Maine Wildlife Transport, or following her June Gemini heart and doing something totally random. She lives with three rescue cats, her two Doberman/German Shepherd mixes, a flock of chickens that varies in size, and her boyfriend.
Samantha will be attending Maine Book Fest 2025 with the hope of spending the weekend connecting with other readers and writers, talking books, chatting about horror, and meeting other bookish Mainers. She will have paperback copies of her books available for purchase.

My art has one mission and that is to bring a bit of joy to someone’s day. A huge bookworm myself, I’ll be bringing book themed polymer clay accessories (earrings, necklaces, pins, mask chains, eye glass chains, and bookmarks)

Theresa Cyr
I am an author of the Unintended Travelers series (3 books). I've also illustrated a children's book that my grandson wrote (he was 6 years old), and wrote and illustrated a book for teens about mental health called I Am Not Okay.
I’m originally from Aroostook County Maine where I helped my husband raise my two stepsons. I now live in the western foothills of Maine with my husband, two cats, and our dog.
I enjoy writing, reading, crocheting, and walking our dog on the trail, and I teach middle school in my spare time.
